Microsoft 365 Faces New Outage Impacting Teams, Leading to Call Failures

Microsoft is actively investigating a new Microsoft 365 outage that has been affecting Teams customers and causing disruptions in call services.

The incident, which began over an hour ago, has led to hundreds of reports on Downdetector, a popular outage monitoring service. Affected users have also reported experiencing problems with authentication.

As stated in a recent service alert (TM1022107) on the Microsoft 365 admin center, Microsoft mentioned that “users might experience issues receiving calls routed through Teams-provisioned auto attendants. and call queues.”

“We are analyzing service telemetry and call metadata to gain a better understanding of the impact and plan our next steps,” the company stated.

While Microsoft has not specified which regions are affected by this ongoing outage, nor provided details on the root cause of the incident, it continues to work toward resolving the issue.

Despite the company’s assertion that only Teams is impacted, users are reporting broader disruptions. Many have mentioned that they are encountering issues with Outlook, OneDrive, and Exchange, or facing difficulties in checking emails.

“Multiple services, including Teams, Exchange, SharePoint, Bing, and others are being affected. So, it seems to be a bigger issue than just Teams,” one user noted.

Another reported, “I can only access Outlook and Teams via mobile, and I’m only able to access my 365 emails through the Outlook app. They won’t load on Apple’s native mail app.”

Additionally, Microsoft has warned on its service health status page that customers in Canada are experiencing authentication and connectivity problems when trying to access various Microsoft 365 services such as Exchange Online, Teams, and the Microsoft 365 administration portal.

Earlier this weekend, Microsoft announced that it had addressed a separate Microsoft 365 outage that caused issues with Outlook and Exchange Online authentication. This problem had also impacted Teams and Power Platform functionality. The company attributed this outage to a coding issue from a recent update in Microsoft 365’s authentication systems.

However, a Monday advisory revealed that Exchange Online users were still having trouble accessing calendars and emails via the iOS native mail app.

Furthermore, last week, Microsoft resolved another issue linked to a DNS change, which resulted in Entra ID authentication failures for customers utilizing Seamless SSO and Microsoft Entra Connect Sync.

Update March 03, 14:42 EST: Details added about the ongoing Microsoft 365 issues affecting users in Canada.

Update March 03, 16:53 EST: Microsoft confirmed that the authentication issue had been resolved.

We’ve discovered a recent modification that inadvertently affected auto attendants and call routing queues. We’ve deployed a fix to restore service,” the company stated.

After prolonged monitoring, we have verified that the service has fully restored following the implementation of the fix.
